Dear Folks at Home,
Fine rain - saw a bird Saturday with fire-red head, snowwhite back and jet black sides and tail, not quite so big as a robbin [sic]
[small sketch, with red coloring on head]
Too bad you didn't have energy enough to read Coogle [?] all through. You have missed some fine passages. I marked the most interesting ones with a dot in the margin.
Church out here yesterday. Not a great crowd. People don't believe in going to church summers even across the road.
The old lady's pictures have been here on my desk since Saturday. Didn't suppose Mr. Cullen would get them ready so soon. Guess I'll have to have some printed to show you what an artist I am.
No news yet this morning. Mr. Gates is looking fine. Spencer & Van Mater are looking old and decrepit. Great improvement on the separator Saturday. Lucky this particular machine was delayed.
Two fillings Friday. Another on the other side tomorrow. 'Fraid if they were both done at once I would have to fast all day.
Think now what began to ache was the top end of one that hasn't any holes in it. It's still some sore.
Good Morning
Charles -
Heres some retouching varnish (in another cover) I borrowed it from Mr. Cullen. Put it on with the tip of your finger or a bit of linen. When it is try [dry?] the spot is ready to be "retouched" with lead pencils.
Mr. Cullen rubs the face of his pictures with a wet chamois after we stick them on the card, to get off extra past. Of couse that would work when you mount them dry, with glossy surface.
