A Letter Written on Aug 12, 1853

[There was no year indicated on the letter itself, but the envelope had the year.]

So. Hadley Aug. 12th
Friday morn

Dear Anne, -

I will drop a line this morning to let you know that I shall start to-morrow morning (Saturday) for Brooklyn - I shall come down in the evening accommodation if I can get to Worcester in time for it - if not, in the Steamboat train -

If any of your "folks" are to be at Danielsonville at that time, just ask them to wait at the Depot, and I will make myself visible - we went over to Commencement yesterday and had a hard time - It was as hot as blazes, and so dusty - a perfect bear garden - we made two or three calls in Old Hadley on our return - did not stop to see Elijah - Probably, his kind, sensitive heart will be wrong when he hears of it. -

Give a great deal of love to "the rest," and take an extra sized chunk for yourself -

Hoping to see you soon,
I remain with "apurances of most distinguished consideration"
Your Majesty's obedient & humble servant,
Didymus M. Brown

Helen sends a heap of love to you and all "the rest."
