My dear Abby:
For thirty-five years our good friend and fellow college-mate, Matilda Calder Thurston, has devoted her life in every capacity to advance the Christian education of the young women of China. We admired Tillie's ability in College, her keen mind, her scholarly attainments, her beautiful poise and her deep spiritual nature. All these gifts she has given unstintedly to China. She has represented you and me in that great country, trying to build up a womanhood worthy of our Alma Mater and our common Lord and Master, Jesus Christ. You all know the tremendous task it has been and the material sacrifices she has made. But what complete success has followed her efforts!
To-day China and Ginling College are in desperate need of our prayers and our gifts. Can we not show our sympathy with China and our loyalty to Tillie by making a gift which will be a living memorial in the lives of these Chinese college women?
Very sincerely yours,
Mary Woodward Budd,
