A Letter Written on Jan 26, 1918

[The year is clearly 1918 - it is post-fire, and topics are the same as other letters Abby wrote around this time.]

Jan. 26

Dear Dr. Clapp:-

I want to write you - and have to read blue books! Went to Amherst to the Hampshire Co. Al. Asso. to tell 'em about the fire. Mostly they wanted to know about your things! And they're right, too. I went to see Miss Edwards yesterday and heard about tracks and many other things. She's a wonder. I had a lovely time - 'twas good for my spirit. Miss Hooker hasn't been very well. And she's mad at Miss Stokey cuase she didn't come back for more than a week after the fire. Says she ought to love her job. Miss H- said she hadn't gotten her courage up to write to you yet - the whole thing has depressed her much, partly because she isn't well, I think - bad cold which has hung on. Aunt Hooker has been quite sick - is better. So is Mrs. Purington - though by no means as of yore. She walks about the house however. - New microtome has come, very handsome Spencer - $108.00

Love to you -
Abby H. T
