A Letter written on May 26, 1917

[The postmark is blurred, but the year can be deduced by the letter content, and other letters I have by Me-iung Ting written to Abby Turner. Her first year in Michigan began in the fall of 1916, so her freshman year would be finished in May, 1917.]

Saturday Evening.

My dear Dr. Clapp:-

I have just finished writing my Bacteriology laboratory notes. We really do not have to hand in until next week, but I thought it is best to write up each week's work than to pile all up to the last minute. I have a few minutes yet - that is before my bed time. I just want to tell you that I have been thinking about you greatly these days. I often feel so homesick for my college friends and professors. We do not know our professors here very well. Dr. G. C. Huker is the only professor that I know well for he used to visit us every morning when we had Histology.

I hope by the time this reaches you, you will be well. I heard about you through - - can you guess who is that person told me about you? Not Miss Turner.

I wish we might go East this coming summer. But one can never fortell what may or might happen. I shall be through my work about the middle of June. That would be my end of my freshman year. So far I have enjoyed my work except physiology. I like the subject but I do not like Dr. Lombard's method of presenting the subject. We almost have to learn Dr. Howell's book by heart, for he quizes [sic] us with an open book daily. I rather have laboratory work along with it.

Three of my girl-friends are coming to this university next year, then I won't feel lonesome. I close this note with great deal of love "[Chinese character]"

Yours sincerely.
Me-iung Ting.
