A Letter Written on Dec 1, 1869

South Hadley Dec. 1st 1869

Dear friends at home -

As you desired me to write immediately, I will try and say a few words tonight. Arrived about 6 7 o'clock this evening - Should not have found this opportunity to write only we have to keep this half hour silent - Mary has just come in - and we are fairly ensconced once more in our old quarters - We rode from the bridge to Greenfield depot to take the train which was rather late and came very slowly so that we got here late. Every thing seems nice as can be - but I would love to be at home, never-the-less.

Our carpet is very handsome & good I should think, and Clara has got several plants in the windows and things arranged so pleasantly that I hardly recognized the room - Miss Ward is not coming back this series, and I am glad for her sake[.] The retiring bell sings and I will not write more to night, but perhaps will say a few words in the morning - my trunk has not yet come but will probably in the course of the day tomorrow -

Morning      The breakfast bell seems to be delayed as I find one minute this morn[.] But now it rings -

I wish I could get a letter Sat. But I must hear often -

Cornelia
