My dear Miss Clapp:

I can find nothing biographical about Bertram Lenox Simpson (pseud. B. L. Putnam Weale) except that he is an Englishman. (descendant of Gen. Israel Putnam) There is a portrait of him in the January number of the American Review of Reviews. His books are reviewed in various periodicals and the criticisms are in the main farnable. Perhaps you have read his article in the October number of the North American on "What the American fleet could do for China". I add a list of his books:

Manchu and Muscovite. 1904.
Re-shaping of the Far East. '05
Truce in the East and its aftermath; being the sequel to "The re-shaping of the Far East." '07
Indiscreet Letters from Peking 1907
Coming struggle in Easter Asia. '08.
Forbidden boundary. '08.

Very sincerely.
Bertha H. Gault.
