My dear Miss Palmer,

I see that you are to magnify your office and write us up - we of '71.

Well, I presume there are a few items that I can gather.

When must you have the article finished? I go north about the middle of May and can see you then. My photos were destroyed in the fire of 1917 and still I think I can lay my hands on some groups like those I had.

About Williston Hall, I do want something, in fact, I would like that to take the place of much trash that might to gathered about myself. Miss Ann Morgan is the one to do that, rather than Miss Wallace. Mrs. Mary Tuttle Bourdon has been very prominent in connection with college affairs. Miss Florence Purington can give you items about her.

Viette Brown Sprague was a missionary in China and escaped thro' Mongolia at the time of the Boxer Rebellion. There is quite a story there.

Mrs Hettie Dodd Carter, who has been class president for 50 years, is expecting to be present at reunion. The items about her might be connected with the fact that her mother, who is still living, graduated in 1848 - the year before Mary Lyon died. There are three of the class of '48 living. The daughters of Mrs. Carter have been at college, so three generations have been represented.

Mrs. Carter was the daughter of a missionary Mr Dodd of Turkey (more can be said)

Mrs. Mary Wilkins Freeman nongraduate is honorary member of the class of '71

But I think it does not matter and I know that some others will also fail.

Julina Hall, sister of G. Stanley Hall has been a successful teacher all her life. (I can get more particulars.)

Two M.D.'s in the class

One Ph.D. in the class living

Laura Watson, teacher in Bos Andover &c (more can be said)

Mary Williams - club woman (more can be said)

Among non graduates Mrs. Marcellus Bowen (Flora Stearns) has been prominent in Constantinople & I can gather some items about her.

Mrs. R. Morrison Smith of South Hadley is among non-graduates

One M.D. Mrs. Elizabeth Bertolet

There were 36 graduates in 1871.

There are 26 living graduates of 71 in 1921

Of those who have died
Josephine Brink noted teacher in Brooklyn N.Y. gave a scholarship to college
Helen Angell Goodman was a poet (class poet)
    Annie Willis was a poet
    Victoria White was an M.D.
Libbie Welch Ives was the funny one of the class, full of life & merriment -
Caroline L. White teacher taught at college, Topeka Kan & at college in Springfield

Essays of note by class - one by Hettie Dodd, one by Victoria White suffragist of class.

I have jotted now a kind of outline - you see. I will send this on and when I see you in May I can supplement.

I will send on items as I get them.

Photos I have will be shown you in May - about the 20th of the month -

Hastily C. M. Clapp
