Dear Mamma:-
I thought I would send you a line from here as we have some time to wait for the train. We left camp this morning right after breakfast and walked about a mile and a half to Gordon's Landing where we took the steamer for Port Kent. Then we came five miles by train to the chasm. The walk down thro' it was fine. The rocks are very steep and varied, with beautiful ferns and mosses. After about a mile or so we came to the place where the rowboats start for about a half mile ride thro' very mild rapids. It was delightful, even tho it rained as we went thro'. Then we drove back to this hotel. The only rain was while we were in the row boat, and for the rest of the time we have found clouds much more comfortable than bright sunshine would have been. We go to the station very soon, and back as we came getting home in time for supper. We ate our lunch in the cavern. I am so glad to have gotten this in.
Love to you and Papa,
Abby.
