Mount Holyoke College
South Hadley, MassachusettsDear Mamma:-
Your letter came today. You are very good to think of my going to Europe with the other people, but I don't think I ought to take as much of your money as I should have to. The whole expense wouldn't be less than 450 anyway. I couldn't save more than 200-250 before June, so you see I'd have to take quite a slice of yours. Then you would have to take more to live on, for the rent wont make the repairs and support you, comfortably, I'm sure. I can go some other time. Of course I'd like to go now, but I shall live if I don't. I can go to Woods Hole and improve my mind.
Mr. Lund's bill came today - 111.00 I have sent his check off, and I think that is the last. I deposited $170 in the bank here, including the checks from Miss Purington and Miss Smith for flowers. I have paid the bills -
Mr. Heald - 6.50 Sawyer 3.00 Gardeke 7.50 Churchill 21.00 Lund 111.00 149.00 That leaves 21.00 of the 170 here. I am sending you a check for $46.00. [no longer with this letter] We were paid today, and I think you ought to have some available money. Don't you think it would be a good plan for you to begin paying Jessee board after a while? She probably wont want you to, but you would feel more independent.
Must stop now and go to work. I thank you very much for suggesting my going - but I'd better not now -
Love to all,
Abby.
