A Letter Written around Aug 6, 1908

Dear Mamma:-

There isn't much to write except that the weather stays the same and the work keeps on. We have another partial exam in Chemistry next Monday and the final Thursday afternoon, but there will be work on Friday. My health is excellent, but I'll be glad to see the end of this job. I'm glad I put in a little physiology, because I enjoy that very much.

They had a big shower down on the lake here last night. Several boats were torn from their moorings and lots of trees blown down. It blew and rained hard here, but not hard enough to do any harm.

I find there is a vacant suite in this house on the third floor, so Lucy can stay here, which makes it very convenient. She can have her meals at our table too, by having an extra seat put in. Don't know just when she will get here - perhaps Friday night.

Hope your corn is better. They can be a great bother. I don't care when that woman does the corset covers as long as they get done.

Do as you choose about the time of going to South Hadley. When does Louise go back? I had thought if she was going not far from the time Mt. Holyoke opens that you might come when she does, so as to have company all the way to Springfield, or to Boston anyway, in case she should take a night train from there. That ride down in Maine is long. You will come by way of Boston, won't you? It is so much easier travelling. I could plan to meet you in Worcester if you go where I do. Or I could meet you in Springfield if you come with Louise. Of course you don't want to stay very late down there - but it depends on when Louise gets her work done. Come when you want to. It will not be much work to get the rooms arranged this fall - nothing like last year. It was work then. I want to look out for the lab. some before college opens, and shall get there eithe rFri. or Sat. before the 24th.

Anne and I are going to try to make a call tonight if she gets back from her traps in time. We have to call on Miss Hoag, one of the Mt. H- faculty. Don't want to a bit, but it must be done and the sooner the better.

I hope you'll have a nice birthday. I'm sorry not to have the fan now to send to you. Tell me if you'd like anything else better, or if there is anything you want me to buy in Boston.

Much love to you,
Abby

I told you the N.H. address? You don't need it yet, of course. I'll be at Elizabeth's Aug. 15 & 16 nights - 20 High St, Chelsea, Mass. and then at
