A Letter Written on May 23, 1911

Dear Mamma:-

I wonder if it cooled off as much in Nashua as it did here. Today has been so cool that many closed cars have been run, and yesterday it was 92°. The two rooms I worked in were 91° and 88°, but today the awnings have been put over the roof windows.

Tonight Dr. asked me over for dinner. She is nearly packed up - leaves in about a week. She is better than she was but by no means well, and so horribly suspicious of people. It must be very uncomfortable to think people are plotting against you, but there's no little sense in many of her ideas.

I stopped a few minutes to see Uncle Cleveland. He is very lively indeed & had taken quite a walk today and was talking about the garden. Flora is better though she looked tired and has an occasional twinge. Their maid is about to leave and she is trying to get another.

Mrs. Johnson knows of someone whom we may like to have with us next year, a Miss Dean, relative of Miss Parker and Mrs. Fiske (who live nearly opposite Mrs. Johnson - from Derry, you know). I have not seen this woman yet but I have telephoned to her and I think it sounds hopeful so far. She was two years a student at Mt. Holyoke and so knows South Hadley. I shall not have time to see her this week but shall try to next. I hope she will be the right one.

With much love to you,
Abby
