A Letter written on Dec 30, 1904

Dec 30

Dear E

Almost time for a Happy New Year[.] How the days fly and the years are gone before we realize they are fully here. Today a package reached us and a few days ago one came today another came many thanks Hattie has come and I must lay this by Joe today-

Dec 31- I had callers and Hattie the rest of the P.M. among them one whom I think you met while here Mrs Williams one of our very best. also a Miss Johnson who is a stranger among us but is an assistant to Mr Carroll as they have decided Jessee was to be only I prevented it by my opposition - you remember I think I shall never consent to it she is not strong enough for the work required for the position then she has too much sympathy.

Another break dinner but to tell the truth I cant write much like Geo I am so tired what shall I do? I too am waiting and often feel I shall soon hear the summons - "child come home" pray for me often I almost feel like "Christian" that I too may find it hard in crossing the river yet He has promised "never to foresake" us - I wonder if the day is as fine in N as here it is perfect. Once more let me thank you & A for us all for the pretty things Jessee is so busy in the office did not get home till after nine last night will work all day today and [...] E's hand is doing well but must wear splints till sometime next week then many before she can use the hand hired help for Jessee that means she is our only [...] What she does is but little appreciated but dont say anything only it is hard for [...] wish I could help.

Love from all Abby

Happy New Year to all from all

[Abby is Emeline's sister. She died a few days after writing this letter. Jessee is Abby's her daughter.]
