Nov. 2-. 1881.Dear Aunt Emma
Father mother and Jessee have gone to church and the rest of us are at home, I have been suffering with the teeth-ache for the past week & my face is swollen so that I did not care to go out, and find it very comfortable in doors. This is the last Sabbath I am to be at home but I do not realize it and shall not until I am really away from here. I thank you & Uncle Geo. ever-so-much for the beautiful castor you sent by father am very much pleased with it as well as with the sugar-spon from Grandma, think much more of that for it was hers and the pretty little frame from Abbie, I wish you could see my presents. I have some very nice ones for one living in the country & having no wedding of course you saw what father bought me. I think them splendid then beside the castor, spoon & frame I have had an elegant heavy silver ice pitcher & cup from Sammie & Mina. Sam had the pitcher beautifully marked A. & W. the cup is also marked. I think it the handsomest one I have ever seen quite a surprise to receive anything, a beautiful group of Rogers statuary, subject, "Taking the Oath and Drawing Rations," from Emma and Reno who is to also give the stand for it, a three shelf bracket from Charlie, a very handsome silver cake basket from Mr. & Mrs. Newman, a glass vase from Agnes, tidy, from the girl who worked for us last spring, oil, hand painting from Mrs. Dr. Adams
anda Japanese fruit stand, real pretty, from Cad Townsend, anda large lamp from Frank's aunt Emma Jones, and last summer mother gave me a half dozen desert [sic] forks which makes me two & one half doz. forks in all, so don't you think I have done nicely? I am just as pleased as can be with everything. Jessie is making me a lace toilet-set, and I have the promise of a number of little things which will come before long. Wish it were so you could all step in & see the pretty things but they will keep. I only long now for the time to come when I can keep house and use them but the months will pass quickly and fall will be here before I am ready for it. How is Grandma? We are all so sorry she is so feeble. Tell her I am going to have "W" marked on the back of the spoon handle. I thank her very much for it and you must thank Abbie for the little frame is is real pretty. I have her picture in it and it looks nice in the frame & on the little stand. Again thanking you for your kindness I am with love to all.Mittie Wellman
