A Letter Written on Sep 7, 1913

Sunday night

Dear Mamma:-

Miss Smith is all ready for bed, but I'll write you just a line. It has been a rather hot day but with a good breeze. There was no church service this week though there has been through July and August. I don't know what they do in winter - there are only 28 voters in the town.

A Mrs. Wilcox who is chairman of the Mt. H- S.A.B. fund has been staying in town and we walked over about a mile and a half to where she was staying only to find she had gone. It was a pleasant walk however through wood paths. Then we were invited to the Bloods' for supper on the porch - very pleasant and informal. Alice has to go down Tuesday, two days sooner than she expected. I am so sorry for she was going tramping with us.

Yesterday afternoon I walked up to the Ledge - and found there a Mt. Holyoke 1910 (or 1911) girl and her husband. They came to call this afternoon. Miss Smith knew her well and was glad to see her.

I must stop and go to bed so as not to keep Miss Smith awake. I don't like to go so early - it's only about nine o'clock and I'm not at all sleepy.

I hope it hasn't been hot in South Hadley, and that you and Miss Dean are getting on well.

Much love to you -
Abby
