Dear Mamma:-We certainly had a fine time up Mt. Washington. The walk up was lovely and the sunset fine. There was no sunrise however, and it snowed up there quite briskly yesterday morning, and a little all the forenoon. We came down by train, and found the day clear though cloudy when we got below the cone of the mountain. The train ride is interesting, too. I had never done that before, and shouldn't this time but for Miss Smith's foot. She got along very well as it was, but going down hurts her worse than going up. There were 15 there over night. I'm sending you the paper "Among the Clouds" and a R.R. folder which has some good pictures. We certainly had a good time.
I shall leave here Monday A.M. and spend that night with Nell Swift 49 Vinal Avel, Somerville, Mass. and then see several candidates Tuesday and get home Tues. night sometime. I shall mail my trunk check to Mr. Leonard in the hope of his betting my trunk up on Tuesday. If he does, please have it put right in the study, even if it isn't ornamental.
A woman from Springfield is coming up to see us Wed. A.M. and one from Vermont may come Wed. too. Don't know about her yet. The trouble with Miss Hooker's candidate is her distance. I don't want to engage anyone without seeing her - it isn't safe. I'll write to her, (though I can't make out very much from Miss Hooker's directions) and so be in connection with her if none of these others turn out right. The Vermont one seems to me the most hopeful so far. Please thank Miss Hooker for her interest.
I hope you'll be all right until I get home.
With love to you, and remembrances to the family as a whole -
Friday A.M.
