Sunday A.M.Dear Mamma:-
I'm over at Castine. The captain had to come over to meet a guest so a lot of us came along too and while we wait for the boat I'll begin to write to you.
We've been having grey weather and last night a real storm. Friday we went out to fish in the morning and all together caught about 50 flounders. They are good eating. I guess I caught five or six myself. Then in the afternoon we walked out to the tip of the cape - about six miles in all. The woods there are as lovely as any I ever saw, just as lovely as they were two years ago. Yesterday it rained all day and I didn't do anything out of doors. But that crêpe waist is actually done!
The passenger came just then, so I had to stop. It's now evening and Mrs. Woodward is here for a day so we have been much with her. You don't know her, but she had a daughter at Mt. Holyoke who is now married and has a summer home near here. Mrs. W- was here two years ago, but this year is staying at Castine and is here for today only. She is going back the same day I am if I go as I now plan to, the 14th. Then I'd stay one night with Elizabeth McKee if it was convenient and shop in Boston a little, and then go to Nashua and stay as long as I have for my teeth. That would get me to South Hadley the 18th or 19th, probably.
I'm afraid I've missed Dr. Clapp. She started on the automobile trip earlier than I thought she would and I think my letters have missed her all around. I'm so sorry for she has been just across the Bay and I'm sure she would have come across if she'd gotten my letters. I don't know whether Miss Smith will come but I'm afraid not. Beryl hasn't heard surely about her mother's sailing but probably they will land the ninth, in which case she will leave the eighth.
Your inclosure about the gas came all right, also the postcards. If the gas bill is sent with a one-cent stamp it will not be forwarded. Please open one-cent envelopes and either ask Miss Smith to pay the bill to Mr. Gridley or send the bill to me. I usually pay Mr. Wright but I'm pretty sure Mr. Gridley could receipt the bill.
I hope both you and Miss Smith are all right.
Love to you -
