[I'm not entirely sure about the date. The postmark is very weak, but I think it is Sep 3, 1914. She mentions writing the letter on a Wednesday, which would make it Sep 2.]Dear Mamma:-
It's Wednesday night and we've had a fine week so far. Monday we went to Bangor, and I sent you a card from there. The trip up the river was beautiful, so many fine headlands and coves. Yesterday we went to Rockland with Elizabeth and then took the trolley for Camden. I've looked at the Camden Hills from Pemaquid and from here and now we've actually climbed one. The view was lovely, especially of the harbor with all its little boats and of a charming freshwater lake among the hills. I surely do like this country.
Today I've corrected proof almost all day, though I've managed to have a good time too, going in bathing and rowing this evening. The moon is beautiful.
I'm glad you are getting on so well. Thank Miss Smith for her letter, too. It was good of her to write me such a nice letter. I had a long talk with Mrs. Dow on the boat for Bangor Monday. She is staying with her sister in Castine and I hope to have her come over here.
I'll not be able to write long tonight because it's getting late. We stopped in to Lilla Clement's room a while. You may remember her - a slender dark haired girl who came to dinner with me once or twice. She graduated in 1906.
I had a nice letter from Gertrude Gates yesterday and one from Madeleine today. Both sent their love to you. Beryl sends her love to you -
Much love from
Abby
