Thursday nightDear Mamma:-
This has surely been an interesting day. This morning we started out about 9:30 and got our programs and they are a study! There are so many things going on. We thought we would here [sic] some papers on women's education but had some difficulty finding the Hall, only to learn the session had been postponed until tomorrow! But we saw some of the city in our search and had a good time. This afternoon we heard some papers and a fine address by Elihu Root on International Law - most interesting! Then we went to a reception at the Chilean Embassador's - very crowded, and with lots of South Americans there. Hundreds of So. Americans are here, several near us in our hotel dining room. One paper this afternoon was by a gentleman from Peru - in Spanish. A very pleasant man - perhaps a Congressman - from Knoxville, Tenn. sits near us at table. He suggested that we ought to see the Congressional Library at night, to see it lighted, so we have been there this evening. It is very much larger than the Boston Library and far more ornate. One interesting thing was a series of pictures of all the presidents, prints & photos, on a stand. The guard put us out just before ten or we should be there yet - there is so much to see!
It has been lovely weather, like a clear cool April day. The sun sets noticeably later here and all day has had such nice air. I hope tomorrow will be a[s] pleasant. We go to dinner with Helen Vincent tomorrow night. Effie Read called this afternoon when we were out, unfortunately.
I hope you are all right, and that Miss Holbrook is too. Please rmeember me to her and to the Blakely's -
With much love to you -
Abby
