Wednesday night

Dear Mamma:-

While I wait for Effie Read to come to dinner, I'll start a note to you. The weather is so warm that it seems as if the frogs must be croaking! We surely are uncomfortable in winter clothes.

There have been some fine meetings - one where the subject of ventilation was discussed and another, a woman's session, where work for the blind and deaf was presented.

It is now later. Effie Read came and we had a good time with her. She is as lively and energetic as ever and I was glad to see her.

We have now a pleasant Japanese doctor at our table - a man who knows some people whom Dr. Clapp knows. And there is a woman whose husband is one of the leading chemists in the new making of dyes in this country since the war shut off the importation from Germany. She took us down to the meeting this morning in her automobile.

We have our tickets to hear Pres. Wilson tomorrow night, and our reception invitations for the next night. I shall be interested to see if the Mollers get there. Dr. Clapp saw them on the street the other day, dressed in remarkable style.

We've been this evening to hear a man talk about astronomy - very interesting.

I expect to start Saturday and spend Saturday night in New York with Eva, reaching home sometime Sunday. I'm glad you are getting on so well, and hope you'll not get cold. There seem to be few colds here and no grip epidemic, but other places seem to have much.

Love to you -
Abby

I shall not write again, probably -
