Dear Mamma:-

This is where I am for the night, quite unexpectedly. Yesterday it cleared off and Grace and a Miss Flanders and I went up Pine Mountain, a rather low mountain, not far from Gorham. We walked to the Shelburne station, took the train to Gorham, climbed the mountain from there, a lovely trail with a wonderfully clear view at the top. We got back to Gorham in time to get the afternoon train down to Shelburne again. That was the first day we had had without many showers. The stars last evening were beautifully clear, so we planned to go up Mount Washington from Randolph, as I have been before though by a slightly different trail. A man who lives in Miss Whitney's farmhouse brought us over to Randolph, we went up to Madison Spring Huts, but clouds gathered. We stayed there an hour and most of them went away so we walked around the top of Adams where I had never been before. It didn't look like good weather for Washington so we started down and got well into the woods before there was a shower. We got some wet, but they take our things off here and dry them all right.

I see Alice Blood's name in the register, but she wasn't at supper. The maid says she comes only to dinner, so I shall not see her as we plan to take an 8:46 back tomorrow morning. I'm sorry.

I hope you are all right. Let me know if there is any thing I can do. I'm glad you like Miss Safford. I'll not write more because Grace wants to go to sleep. We have a room together - and alas, it has little air. But it is only for a night.

Much love to you.
Abby
