Sunday nightDear Mamma:-
Grace left this afternoon to see a Portland friend for a day or two, and I go tomorrow morning. My trunk is practically packed. And this has been a perfectly clear day! Just as we leave the good weather begins! We have so longed for clear days to climb in and had none. Yesterday we went up to Shelburne Basins - do you remember that waterfall you went to see when you were here? Miss Gates spoke of your going just the other day. The great abundance of water made the falls lovely, and the path was beautiful. We found a few yew berries and if I can manage to pack them before I start in the morning I'll send them to you. I fear the berries may fall off as they are very ripe, but perhaps a few will get through. They are such pretty things.
We went up Middle this morning, and had the one really good view we have had. There were fat blueberries too. The blackberries are just beginning to ripen. Maybe some of these things will be in Pemaquid. I shall be glad to get there, but sorry to lose Grace as a companion, for she is such a good tramper.
I'm so sleepy I must stop, for I have several little things to do before I go to bed. For one thing I must collect more bedclothes for the weather has changed and there may be a frost! It is certainly chilly.
I'm going to send the second package I spoke of tomorrow morning, the one with my light coat and muslin dress.
With much love to you,
