Dear Mamma:-
I'm very comfortable here, but the hotel is down in the valley and also rather more expensive than I think I can afford, so I shall probably go to a cheaper house along sometime in the week. I went up to see the place - about 2 1/2 miles from here - yesterday. They are full now, but will have vacancies this week, so I think I'll move when they do Meantime I'll enjoy running water in my room and various little comforts.
Jackson is certainly lovely. I went up a little mountain this forenoon. It was too clear a day to miss, even if rather warm. I could see so many mountains including Mount Washington from the side opposite what we see at Miss Gates' in Shelburne.
There are pleasant people here at the house though no one I know.
Jessee and Fred are well and I hope they will get out to see us later. "Mabel" Horn, her husband, a little girl of five and a 12 weeks' old baby were at Jessee's, for about a two weeks' stay, I think. She was the one who used to be in the office with Jessee you know. I was glad to see them.
Boston was hot. I had lunch with Anna and a friend of hers and Miss Dover, very pleasantly. I did a few errands and got the 5 o'clock train for Nashua. Fred met me at the station with their auto and it was good to get out of the hot train. Their garden is fine - lots of flowers and vegetables. Jessee and Fred plan to be alone this winter, so Jessee is not putting up quite as much as last year. She is doing a lot, however.
Your rucking I saw needed replacing so I got some in Boston. It wasn't expensive so you can have some fresh as often as yours gets soiled. Which reminds me that I must hunt up a laundress for my clothes suffered on those two hot days in the train. I guess I'd better be about it if I want the clothes before moving 2 1/2 miles up the valley.
I hope you are well and that the heat has lessened somewhat. Address mail to me just Jackson, N.H. and I'll get it. Love to Miss Safford and to you -
