A Letter Written on Aug 22, 1919

Dear Mamma:-

I am tonight at the house where Nell Swift and I stayed so many years ago when I came to the mountains for the first time. And the woman who was specially nice to us then is here still and took us out for a little walk tonight! It is a lovely night with such clear mountains all up around Profile. I hope to take Grace up to those nice places tomorrow. She has never seen them. I have been there only twice but they look beautifully familiar.

We had a wonderful walk over Moosilauke, with much finer trails than Beryl and I took, though not as perfect a view from the top. We stayed last night in a tent at a cabin up in a Notch six miles from here - with telephone and many conveniences. This morning we went through the famous Lost River where you climb ladders to look at the remarkable formations in the rocks. The guides seemed so nice, and everything was made most secure. I'll tell you more about it later.

We walked the six miles down here before dinner and have been unpacking our packages and getting mail read, laundry attended to, &c, this afternoon. All the packages came safely, as they usually do, and all the letters Miss Safford mentioned.

Grace is almost in bed, and we have a room together, so I must stop.

With much love to you, and with gladness that you are getting on well,

Abby
