Friday night.
North Brooksville,
Maine.

Dear Mamma:-

We certainly are having a lark[.] Last night I slept in a room with a red velvet carpet, quite elegant - tonight it's a room with no carpet! We were at Blue Hill last night in a pleasant little hotel, very comfortable. Tonight we are in a little town where there is no hotel at all and only one woman who sometimes "takes folks in." She didn't seem anxious tonight, but finally took us. We ate in the kitchen and washed her dishes for her!

We've walked about twelve miles today through lovely country Once we sat down on a schoolhouse steps and a woman called to us from the house opposite to know if we didn't want some cookies! They were mighty good - cream, I guess, did it. She saw us two days ago in Sargentville where she was driving - and doubtless her curiosity was aroused past the standing it! We had a pleasant chat with her.

Elizabeth is in bed and I must go - it is now 7:30! Think of that - but there's nothing else to do.

Every night I have been able to connect very easily with telephones, so as to have it possible for any message from Harborside to reach me. Even here there is a pay station not more than five minutes, even three minutes' walk from the house. We expect to get back in time for dinner tomorrow as we aren't more than six miles from Mr. Gray's, and take a little extra trip up a hill, too. We've had lovely weather so far.

Please give my love to Miss Dean.

Much love to you -
Abby.
