Friday night

Dear Mamma:-

I have found that Miriam Carpenter is about half a mile from here visiting Mary Turner whose family has a summer home on a lovely road, a road which has about the nicest views there are. Miriam came up yesterday for a few days. They hunted me up this morning and didn't find me at home. But I went up this afternoon and had a lovely call up in the pasture above the house. There is a curious bank of white clouds low down on Mount Washington, with the mountain clear above. The men who live here say it means a change to cooler weather.

There is a boy here from Salem who knows some people I do. He and I had a nice walk up a small mountain this morning. I had been before, but the other way around, so the trails looked different. He is a nice boy of about twenty and we may go walking again. There is also a man from Providence, assistant librarian in the city library, who knows many people whom I know and who may go with us tomorrow. We can't decide where to go until we look at the weather! But I'm glad to see somebody who walks, even if I do stay only a little time more.

I haven't heard from Jessee as to whether she can go back to South Hadley with me. I may hear tomorrow. I shall probably start Wednesday morning from here, so don't write after Sunday as I should not get it. Please tell Miss Safford not to forward mail after Monday morning for it takes so long for it to get here. If I hear from Jessee, I'l probably ask to have mail forwarded once to Nashua, but don't have any sent until I write again about it.

I hope you're as well as usual. It seems a short time now until I get back. How is the garden getting on?

With much love to you,
Abby
