A Letter Written on Jul 19, 1919

Dear Mamma:-

Dr. Clapp's house is fine, and it seems a good deal bigger than you think. I got here in time for supper last night, and Miss Wallace was here, though she starts this morning to be away over Sunday, and speak at a reception. It rains, and I'm glad I have my tramping clothes here. I thought they might be useful.

There was an excellent lecture last night, at which I saw a lot of girls from Holyoke, and some other folks. We slept on her porch, and it's lovely, right near a little pond, but there is a fine mosquito netting and I didn't hear a single mosquito sing.

In Boston I spent most of my time listening to a band concert on the common! I couldn't seem to leave. There were thousands of folks there. It seemed queer to have no trolleys and to see folks riding in all sorts of vehicles, standing up or anything. But it didn't give me any inconvenience at all. I bought a few things and had them sent to South Hadley, and Miss Smith might open them if she is willing. They aren't particularly crushable, except one new middy-blouse.

Love to you,
Abby
