Dear Mamma:-

We walked up today from Jackson here, a lovely quiet road along the base of Mount Washington. We stayed an extra night at Jackson so as to get our clothes washed up. In the afternoon Saturday we took a little walk up on the side of the mountain. Jackson is tucked down in a valley with no view at all from the houses, but up on the slopes around the town there are wonderful views. I should like to stay there longer sometime. We stayed at the house Miss Dean stayed at and I sent her a post card.

We climbed Kearsage on Friday - and I may say it was hot, but we had a fine view all the same. There are so many mountains to see.

Elizabeth lost her sweater today. She realized it very soon and went back to where she had it last but couldn't find it. You know it was bright rose-color so probably some auto picked it up promptly as there are many on the road. I hope she will find it, for we are writing notes for the surrounding post offices, but if she doesn't she can doubtless borrow one up here and so be all right. We surely haven't needed them much so far, and people who have just come down from the summit say it is not as cold up there as I have known it. We can see one snow bank still on the side of Jefferson.

We certainly have had fine weather and a lovely time so far, and I do hope we can get over Mount Washington as well as we have the other mountains.

They have a big smudge out on the steps of the hotel to keep away the bugs and it does wonders. The mosquitoes, black flies and midgets have pestered us a good deal. They poison Elizabeth badly, me some, and don't bother Beryl at all. I don't see why they should let her alone, but they surely do.

We got all our mail at Jackson and I was glad to hear you are all right. I don't know what day we'll be home - the last of the week sometime.

With much love to you,
Abby

Elizabeth and Beryl send love to you.
