Dear Mamma:-
We're going to ride along the road this morning because it is hot and we are all a little lame from yesterday's climb. But we had a splendid day on Chocorua. You know Miss Smith, Miss Purington and I went up eight years ago, but by a relatively uninteresting trail. This time we got around to the side of the mountain where there are several trails and so we could go one way and come back another. As we were starting we fell in with the fire warden who has a station on top. He asked us to go up with him and two boys whom he was taking up. So we were well guided, but these trails are so clear that we couldn't lose our way anyhow. The trail was lovely, and the view magnificent. There were beautiful clouds and shadows. We could see so many mountains and lakes all around. There was a huge fire on the range last year that burned over four weeks and spoiled such a big region. I'm glad they have a fire warden.
The Fourth of July was rainy but in the afternoon we got around here instead of going to Madison where the Woodbury's are. We shall miss seeing them, and I am sorry for that, but this place was more convenient to the trails and we hadn't felt sure of getting in there anyway. We have met very nice people everywhere where we
camehave been. It's nearly time for our man to come so I'll say goodbye. With lots of love to you. I hope you're all right even though it is hot. This is the first hot day we've had and there is a very respectable breeze even today. The air is so different from South Hadley. Love to Miss Holbrook.
Oh, we fell in with a woman an Wonalancet who had gotten Caroline Ransom's wedding cards and was much amazed. Her daughter was Caroline's assistant at Bryn Mawr.
