Sleighton Farm
Sunday afternoon.Dearest Roland,
If you could but see
mme now you would never think I was a fit subject to have at a dance - Here I sit in the living-room writing while I am making ten punished girls rub their young heads off while the rest of the crew is at chapel -Now about coming in for the Prom on Friday - I am pretty sure I can "get off" and will see Miss Cutter to-morrow as she is off the Farm just now. You don't know how anxious I am to come and surely will if I am able.
About staying in New York. I want to thank your mother very much, dear, for asking me. I will stay at "2029" Friday night but Saturday I must to Yonkers go, you know, to see all my variest friends and relations - what is more I have some things I must do for mother at home.
Quarantine was lifted Friday afternoon. As a result we went into town on
FridSaturday and batted around.Dick is possessed that she will have a Boston Bull pup - so we walked to every dog-kennel imaginable hunting for a beloved pup but alack and alas - all in vain. Heaven only knows where she will keep the thing when she gets it - I do not -
Dearest, you do not know how I just long to get into New York again - And to think to go to a "reg'lar" dance - I "daren't
"get to 'cited about it!", as the kids say, for Miss Cutter might not be able to let me come - I think she will tho! e'en tho' my life is not my own here I do have a pretty good pull with her.I'll add a little P.S. after I have seen "her highness" so for now - "Fare-thee-well and if forever fare-thee-well!"
By the way, what do you think of President Wilson's latest escapade with Lansing? The poor man, I think, is a trifle light-headed or something!
All my love,
Fran.P.S. Miss Cutter says I may have all day Friday off so I'll go up to Yonkers on Thursday night - Fran
[Robert Lansing was President Wilson's secretary of state. Lansing was a member of the USA's delegation to the Paris Peace Conference of 1919. However, Lansing had strong disagreements with Wilson about the Versailles Treaty and the League of Nations. Although Lansing had serious reservations about the peace treaties, he attempted to gain Senate approval of them.]
