Sleighton Farm
Darling, Pa.
Del. Co.Well, Bub darling, I've arrive[d]! Do let me tell you about it for it sure was screamingly funny -
I met Dick in N.Y. & Grace Hartshorn & we went to lunch together. Then Dick and I set sail on our pathway of life. We arrived at Philly at 5.30 just as the train for Darlington (R.R. station not the P.O) pulled in. So instead of wiring Mrs. Falconer as we were to we had to come right on down to the dear old place -
Well, when we put our feet on the hallowed ground we put our grips down and laughed & laughed for this is what we saw
Noone about but a hay seed! I walked up boldly & asked how far to Sleighton Farms - He said! "Be you goin to stay a while!" I said "yes" we are to be officers there. "Nice crowd there he said" - "Some of these college girls!" Then I asked for a phone for I found that we were a mile and a half from the farm. I had just said over the phone "This is Miss Brown speaking" etc, etc to the people at the office and friend hay seed heard - and after I'd finished he said - "So you be, Miss Frances Brown, be ye glad to meet ya! Just sent you're [sic] trunk up this mornin'!"
Well, then one of the girls drove down from the farm for us - we arrived here and had drinks - Bub darling, the place is just heavenly - no exaggeration. Tonight we have been walking all around through the different cottages. I know I'm just going to love it. We met Mrs. Falconer tonight and she is a dear motherly old soul. Very easy to meet. Not at all terrifying as we had been expecting of a "big bug", you know.
To-morrow we meet her and have our particular "jobs" assigned. Whatever it is I know I'll like it.
But the girls, Bub dear, - my they are tough individuals. All the workers seem very stern but pleasant with the girls, if you know what I mean.
Tonight while I'm writing Dick is helping me eat up your candy - Don't you wish you were here eating some dear? I wish you were if you don't.
When we arrived both of us had letters from Buddie old girl welcoming us in this part of the globe. Wasn't it great of her to write us, though? She is having a fine time at Asbury resting as best she can!
Well, Bub dear - I must hie me off to bed for I must rise at 6.30! to begin work at 7.30 in the morning. I'll let you know just what my work is next time I write - In the meantime don't forget your
Ever loving,
Fran.Dick says to be sure & remember her to you.
