A Letter Written on Jan 12, 1956

Thursday

Dear Little peoples:

The new year has brot many changes and I'll hope you'll all notice that each and every one of you can read whats [sic] written.

Stellar had a 6 lb. girl Monday at 1.45, name Holly Stang Senft. Tiger was elected to the board of Peoples bank of Hanover. Cole is the new mayors clerk. He fractured his skull falling down the steps and now hes [sic] fine. Hazel's company has went but mores a comin this month. Jobe plays the piano in the Band. I told you there was something peculiar about this nextest generation. Tobe still vows hes [sic] not going to fall in love but live in space because Candy might move away. Tor hurdled t'other night, and after this Baltimore show, in which I've decided to just show him, the next show, whenever that is, I'll show for obedience only.

So, to-day I went thru the old Keesey estate. Thats [sic] that great big mansion beside Lincoln Woods. I was fascinated beyond measure. That place is massive. The floors are all oak, beautiful hardwood, but to my surprise, none parquet. Beamed ceilings, many fireplaces and baths, thousands of windows that had had [sic] stained glass and leaded windows, but the place is so big, heating, sewage taxes would break you. So don't buy it. My advice to you is to go thru it and see the styling. The doors are open and all the windows broken. Perhaps it would do for a convalescent home or apartments.

So, I glanced real casual like at Alice Hoffers sale, and liked a pair of paisley velvet toreador pants but nothing else took my fancy and I didn't buy them either. Reduced to $9

I have the brilliant idea of Indian n printing my dining room wall with those prints of course, wheat paste it on the same as in wallpaper, and have matching draperies. Jeez, you can't win. If it isn't the carbon its [sic] something else. So, anyway, I think its [sic] a brilliant idea, a trifle plush but then I always did tend to the roccoco styling. However, all this glamour will have to wait until after my New York escapadewhich [sic] will be February 14, 15 16[.] Those few days I hope to see 5 plays, one opera and one real georeg [sic] dog show.

Theres [sic] so damned many in the next YLT play its [sic] easier to say those not in it. I declined in favor of a bigger part later, I hope. Leonard got the lead and refused it the next day because he discovered he was too tired from commuting to go down there every night. So, George Gerberick has it now.

Gehlys didn't have much on sale except some beautiful baptiste curtains. My next stop is the York Art Center and I hope they have some joyous tidings for me cause I'm getting real disgusted.

Any one coming home for vacation is drafted into helping me with that wall. I got a letter from Mike Mchale, he had no news except he has moved and painted his apartment.

Its [sic] been raining steadily for the last 5 days and everybodys [sic] bats. Mase made one print and I like it but hes [sic] disgusted, the clutch went boing on the car, the boys fell asleep at 7 to-night, Tor got his muddy feet all over creation and its [sic] cold and windy too.

So, my dear Katish, you stole my idea[.] The boys got around to #Dig' and now think its [sic] the greatest, of course they don't use the rules that are suggested. Think twice befors [sic] you committ [sic] yourself to Allenberry[.] Remember your unhappiness from last year.

Your mother called about the ash tray. She's real nice! You are real lucky to have a witch, a mother and a roommate -

We'll be seeing you sooner than t'others, right? Perhaps you et G can surprise the others with the wall!

heh heh

love Doorthee
