A Letter Written on Feb 3, 1955

Dear Pat,

Well, today's the day. Today Mason goes to Wisconsin, and by Sunday he'll have decided and will be home again. Frightening thought, isn't it? Dottie promises to write as soon as the verdict comes in - and don't be surprised if she signs the letter "Doti". Says it's shorter and more exotic; but Mase says you'd have to pronounce it Date-y, not Dotty. If they go, Doti or Dottie or Dotty or Dot or Witch (as the case may be) is gonna have to change her tune a bit, I hope. I fear ne [?] that Wisconsin might not take kindly to the thought of the wife of the plant's head designer (that's one of her stipulations - that Mase have a title) trotting around with various and sundry gentlemen while the plant's head designer builds a TV set in the cellar and baby sits. And then there's Toby and Joe. There'll always be Toby and Joe.

It's a tremendously cold day in N.Y - 0° outside. I'm wearing my fancy knee-length argyles, and they feel awfully good. My nose nearly froze off going to the bank this morning, and that's no joke. Just laid out $5. for a secondhand Geology book, and they're all out of the 2 french [sic] books I need.

I had my first Victorian Poetry class yesterday. Robertson lectures beautifully. It's like listening to a play reading by an expert. At last I feel I'm getting the background I need in Tennyson, Browning, Arnold, etc.

Dolph still hasn't posted notices for the next play. Wish he'd hurry up. I want to work on another one. I even bought a pair of red rubber gloves to mix paint in.

Has Witch written anything of unusual interest lately? If so, do relay the message. I am, as always, interested and bothered.

Write? Please?

Love,
Janie

By the way, did you get Dot's letter address to

mt. holyoke college
Shadley, mass.?

I swore that the postman would never be able to find Shadley, Mass, or mt holyoke, but she swore yea.
