A Letter Written on Mar 11, 1956

Sunday Late Afternoon

Hi, Honey:

How did the weekend go, Don get over. Was glad to hear from you the other night and pleased to hear you are doing well in your studies, keep up the good work and three more two will be forth coming. Looks like this typewriter needs cleaning, which reminds me this week-end we are all supposed to get new desks and chairs at the office, also new counter and other furniture, yo won't know the old place, Editorial is also all fixed up. I think they wanted to get out of paying for their income tax or something, imagine new furniture, of course, they didn't consult Harold first. Another thing I can't imagine is Harold with a desk with only one side to store stuff. I'd like to be there when he's cleaning out his old desk probably has things 50 years old or more or less. Friday afternoon Muriel cleaned out her desk and threw a lot or [sic] things away, so after she went home, Harold went thru the waste backet [sic] to see if she threw anything away that he could use, imagine. I got my things in a small carton.

This week was a honey again, Monday night was Women's club but I stayed home and did the wash. Tuesday night I went to the ladies aid birthday dinner and made an announcement about our hobby show. I also had a committee meeting for the 19M31 class, which I didn't get to. Wednesday night we had club at Jane's. We had nice hands and lots of countbut [sic] couldn't do a thing. Thursday night the usual store night and it seems we always end up at the shopping center, it's too handy. dad made a new gadget for his camera, attaching the atomic flash to the camers [sic], he's thinking about going in the business. Friday night, we wasted a whole evening going to see I am a camera, it was lousy. Julia Harris was in it. I have some passes for the Capitol without dates on them, I'll save you some. Saturday night we had club a[t] Peg's and I won first ladies. We have club here the first Saturday you're home, tried to trade with the Hipples, but they said they might have to go pick up Ricky who is coming home that Saturday. Well you might want to use the care [sic] anyway and you can help get ready for club and stay and play if you want to.

Grandma and Aunt Bertie were down here for dinner today, roast chicken. After dinner Grandma went home to fix up her kitchen. She had it painted and has to put everything back in, what a mess. Grandma Feiser is here now and Daddy and her are watching Richard the III on TV. A three hous [sic] show, I can't sit still that long. While watching the show Daddy also managed to develop a film that he might print tonight. He seems to do one a week. Towards the end of the film he snaps anything just to end it, he's just like a kid he can't wait. He's making a deal with Peg to do some 8x12 enlargements for her.

I picked up your leg ashtray and your mask. They both turned out rather well. I guess you'll want to put some gold on the mask, but will wait until you get home as I don't know where you'll want it.

By the way did you receive your income tax return. I sent it the other week and you never mentioned whether you got it or not and I forgot to ask before. It should be cashed within a month's time, but save the money.

Is there anything you would like for your birthday, special that it? [sic]

I'm going to enclose some clippings that I think you might be interested in. I can always think of a dozen and one things I want to tell you when I'm not writing but let me sit down tot write and everything goes blank.

If you would rather have us come up to see you in a play instead of coming up Parents day, it will be okay, unless it would come at the end of the month and then it might be hard for me to get away, but I would try. I thing [sic] Grandma would also like to come, I don't know if Aunt bErtie [sic] would take the time off or not, she's afraid to lose a penny.

I would like to know more about this camp deal before you decide to write about it. Where is it located. What kind of barracks, tent or houses. Are any of the other girls from school going to work there? Will it be a seven day job? What are the dates of the season? It might still interfer [sic] with going to Florida if you have to start immediately the 1st of July. Mrs. Schroeder, Jean Wiley and Paul Zarfos just came back from Florida and had a wonderful time. It would be nice if Grandma could go. She's planning on spending about 600. I don't know what for, probably gold plated dinners at some night club. or maybe at the Dog races, but I believe they're over by that time. Mrs. Schroeder said none of them won. Also about living conditions at the camp, and what would be expected of you? Find out all about it and then we can decide.

Let us know when you'll be getting into Lancaster. The way it sounds it won't be until evening. I guess you plan to spend an hour or so in N.Y. Let us hear from you. If you have a lot of things to bring home, you can send them. If you don't have to take your stuff or carry it yourself to the station, why don't you pack some of the stuff in that old suitcase of Grandma's and ship it thru to Lancaster and we could pick it up there, but don't try to be bothered with two suitcases on the train yourself.

The play if [sic] over and Grandma wants to go home, so I'll have to close as I want to mail this letter to you. See you soon. Take good care of yourself.

Love,
Mother
