A Letter Written on Jan 10, 1956

Tuesday afternoon

Dear Pat:

Saturday daddy finally settled for Burn's car. And I have the money to put in the bank as a bond for Aunt Bertie & you, which she says you can have when you graduate. It will be $500. We went to club Sat. night and boy was it cold, just blew up all of a sudden.

Sunday Aunt Bertie & Grandma came down to dinner and we had pot roast for a change. I took Grandma out to the cemetary [sic] and the wreath was still up. We then stopped and picked up Grandma Feiser and brought her out for the evening. I then made some more earrings and a cat. I was thinking the cats would make nice blind pulls, although they might easily get broken. I don't know if you'd want them or not. I made a black one. I made eleven more pair of earrings, some white ones for summer. It was still very cold here.

Boy was Monday a day it rained & froze, by evening our street was like one sheet of ice. We all stayed in for the evening. Our lights were out for about an hour. Dad was trying to read by candle light and I was doing ceramics. All civic meetings were cancelled.

Today was much better it has melted and it's warmer out. None of the pictures have come as yet, not even our Christmas pictures, this is the longest it ever took.

Dad made a check out to you for $10. I don't know if he mailed it or not. You should have had enough money to last you quite awhile in fact until the end of school. You had over $50 didn't you? You better wise up to the fact that you can't afford a trip to N.Y. Dad looked up your schedule and found that your exams aren't due until the following week, instead of this week. How did you make out with your interview? And did Don call you as yet? I'm enclosing a few stamps. [no longer with the letter] Take care of yourself and dress properly for the cold weather. Did you get your iron pills as yet. Write more later.

love
Mother.

Everyone is okay here
