Miss Patricia Feiser
Pearson's [sic] 18, Mount Holyoke College
South Hadley, Mass.Dear Pat,
Please excuse my laxity in answering your letter but the wheels of an organization such as this turn very slowly. My sincere apologies.
To be brief and to the point consider yourself hired. In the past it has always been the policy to have one male instructor in order to maintain discipline. This year we're going to be different and have two girls. I don't believe you'll find rowdyism to[o] much of a problem. Our descision [sic] is based on your evident interest in our Playground and our desire to give young poeple from this area working opportunities.
Your partner will be Pat Minnich, last years [sic] instructor. You might possibly know her. As far as the program is concerned, we're content to let the two of you work it out to best advantage. This year we'll be starting from scratch so to speak because during the past winter every bit of small item equipment has disappeared.
I would appreciate if you and Miss Minnich could get together prior to opening day and give us an outline of your plans on a weekly basis so that necessary equipment and supplies can be made available. Miss Minnich will not be able to help on the Playground until July 1st. because of an extended trip she is taking with her parents. I believe, however, that she should assist in prior preparations. She will be available at home between May 28 - June 7th.
The Playground opens June 18th and continues 5 days per week through Aug. 10th. We are planning a two period day, afternoon and evening for the first two weeks and then morning and evening only for the remainder of the season. Last year we eliminated the Friday evening period because of poor attendance and as things now stand we shall continue to do so. Total number of hours of instruction per week amount to 23 and the salary has been fixed at $40.00 per, payable weekly.
I hope I find you still available and that the above conditions are satisfactory. Please advise earliest and also date I might reach you at home to review the program.
Sincerely Yours
Harry S. Sallade
