A Letter Written on Oct 5, 1954

Tues. Evening.

Dear Patty:

Hey what goes on? Here we looked for a letter from you over the week-end and here it is Tuesday and still no letter. Too much stuff to unpack or what? I was sort of anxious to hear if you received your packages and how you liked the things. I guess we'll have to stop sending packages to get you to write. Grandma did get her letter on Saturday and you said you got your bike, but didn't say you got the other things we had in the package or whether they were lost out. I'm also anxious to bear if you got your blouse as I didn't insure it but sent it first class. We sent your last package Monday by parcel post, special handling, which should arrive sooner than just parcel post as it gets the same treatment as 1st class mail except for delivery. The truck brings it instead of the mail-man. Let us know how long it takes the different packages to arrive so we'll know how to best send them to you. As food should get there as quick as possible. Grandma also had a tray to match the coasters we sent you but we couldn't get it in the box, so it will have to come another time.

It was raining here off and on all day and is getting a little cooler.

Sunday Grandma, Aunt Bertie and I went to Bentz's for an opening. boy what a joint. We saw those fish pillows again and they were 13.50. Maybe we'll try to make you ones for your bed out of this red & green felt I have here in the drawer.

Last night I took Peg. Dietz and we went to the Young Women's Club. And saw a satire play on physiology. The meeting was all about our coming fair this month.

Grandma is sure sporting out she bought herself 2 new dresses at Little's already, it won't pay her to work at that rate, she says they're very nice but as yet I haven't seen them.

Tonight I must go to Ladies aid at church. We had communion on Sunday, did you? If you have trouble with your work you might try praying a little, it always helps.

If you get a chance send Aunt Mary a picture of your college and a short note, she'll be tickled to hear from you. She now has a private room on the 1st floor almost directly under her own room. Her address is Mary Hipple, Convalescent Hospital, 500 Roosevelt Ave.

Emily tells me the girl taking your place is scared stiff about coming out right with her money, otherwise she likes the job.

A friend of Grandma, I believe it might be Jo's Grandmother, said that Jo wasn't married. Have you heard anything like that.

Your theatre arts came, do you want us to ship it in the next package or should we keep it until you come home. It will make nice reading on the train. By the way have you thought about places for coming home Thanksgiving maybe you and Judy could come together. But then maybe you'd have to take a different train to come to Lancaster. Your better start thinking about it, and make reservations early for maybe the Jeffersonian if you make that connection. It will be a busy time.

What did you do over the week-end? If you don't write regularly I guess I have to send you cards to mail that are checked just so we know you're okay. You are, aren't you? If you get sick or anything let me know right away by phone or even get someone else to write, if you can't. Waiting anxiously to hear from you.

Love
Mother.
