A Letter Written on Nov 7, 1954

Sunday Afternoon

Hi Honey:

How you all doin?

Last Tues. evening we went out to vote and stood in line an hour and a half. It looks like all the democrats turned out to elect a native son our next Governor. Charles Sitt was very pleased with the election. Later on I set Grandma's hair. I missed ladies aid by setting her hair.

Wednesday night I went in to Church to help house clean the kitchen some more. I should have stayed home as my kitchen needs it too.

Thursday night I went to club at Jane's. She had a lot of good things to eat which I refused as I'm trying to lose weight for three weeks now and I've only lost about 3 lbs.

Friday night I did my cleaning.

Saturday all day Dad and I were working at cleaning and putting up storm windows. What a job. Also a little nippy out. I also got my summer dresses put away and some of my winter ones out. I've started to wear stockings so you know it's gotten colder here. I hear you've had snow up around in that section, have you gotten any yet? Last night we had club at Jane's and didn't get home until around 2 and asleep at 4.

I got up early this morning 9:15 and gave Grandma a permanent. We all had dinner up at her place, where I am now writing this letter. Everyone is sitting around reading the papers an dhalf going to sleep. It's nice and sunny outside. Aunt Bertie wants me to take her over to her place to put her summer clothes away.

Judy Holloday [sic] is on TV tonight so I guess we'll watch the show. Rhoades got a new set: Little Ellen and Charlie Dietz had the skidders last week and Sandy and Mary E. colds.

By the way you have an appointment with Charlie, Friday - 4:30. Charlie says you're eating too many cookies, candy & cokes and not enough milk. By the way how much milk do you drink a day. You should have at least 2 glasses a day.

I was thinking when you come home, you better lock your things in your dresser in your closet, as you have pretty many expensive things in your dresser. The girls in your dorm might be okay but you never know who else might be prowling around during your vacation. Remember how it was when you came anybody and everybody running all over the place.

Also gather together the things you think you won't need this winter and we'll take them along back with us and save some space this spring.

How come you didn't have your blue books finished in math. Are you trying to do too many extra things and neglecting your lessons. You better not do that or they'll start complaining. Don't take on extra things if you can't complete your lessons. Why don't you go in to see your french [sic] teacher and tell her you can't understand her dialect. You know in different parts of France they have different accents. Maybe she could help you, or maybe tutor you a bit, until you got into her dialect. Anyway do something about it before it's too late. Maybe you could change teachers. Do the other students have the same trouble?

Carolyn is having quite a time with her history. Mae says she can't get it at all.

Phil was home last week-end and brought Bob & the other girl from York along. Carolyn didn't come.

How are you making out with your train schedule?

Grandma was talking to Miss Hallock who said she got a nice letter from you.

What kind of long gloves did you want? Wool or cotton?

How are your shoes holding out?

Your church services must be very interesting with a different speaker every week. You sure can't complain about getting tired of the same speaker. We're going to have a mission week here week after next with services every night. And visiting all members.

Uncle Ivan is just about the same - he still gets up to go to the bathroom but has no appetite and is very week. Grandma Feiser is going up to see him this week.

Aunt Bertie is waiting for me to take her over to her house so I guess this will be all for now.

Be good and don't do too much.

Love
Mother
