A Letter Written on Sep 22, 1954

Wed. Evening 8: P.M.

Hi-ya- Honey:

We arrived in N.Y. at about 10:15 and went straight to bed. They gave us the same room we had the night before for $7.00 after daddy jewed them down from $9. During the night a cold got the best of daddy and he spent the last half of the night up-chucking mucus, like he always does. I guess he got too hot unloading Sunday and couldn't take a shower afterwards or he caught our cold. I persuaded him however to stay in N.Y. until 4:P.M. I went down town shopping in the morning and he met me in Macy's at 12:00. We made two purchases for you in there which you'll get sometime next week. If there's anything you need shipped let me know right away so we can send everything all at one time. We spent a good deal of time in the new Orbach's - what a store! I bought a skirt. We then went down to the village where I bought Dot her shoes. We finally came down the list to red, with a slightly purplish cast. They're nice looking, but I haven't gotten them over to her yet. The girl said they didn't carry purple at all and no turquoise so I settled for red. Also got myself a pair of red. I'll finish later Jane is down for club.

11:45 P.M. Club left out early thank goodness as I'm very tired & sleepy. We left N.Y. about 4:00 P.M. and I drove most of the way as Dad was feeling punk. We had driving rain most of the way, it started just as we were ready to leave.

When we got home I called Grandma and told her all about you & your room. She was baby sitting at Kling's.

Daddy stayed home all day today to nurse his cold. He said he didn't know if he was getting the mumps or not. How is your cold doing has it left yet? Try not to tire yourself out too much and maybe you won't catch too many colds. Dad's better tonite, I guess he'll go to work tomorrow.

I sent you Mon. Tues & Wed's papers. today and Emily is starting you on the regular list tomorrow, gratis.

May was telling all about Carolyn. She now has a room-mate and her classes all start around 8 A.M. Enclosed is a letter from Grove City [no long with the letter], we can't make out exactly who it's from. May says it's not Carolyn's handwriting, and your name isn't spelled correctly, so we figure it must be from Bob, are we correct?

Pauline had to mess in my work so I have a job straightened [sic] that out.

Grandma received your letter today. That was fast delivery. That was nice of you to write to her. What about this bathroom. I thought it was way down the hall from you, at least the one you took me too [sic] was. Daddy said he thought there should be another one closer by. Boy I bet you mind those toilets flushing.

Don't be in a hurry to buy your chair, just for the sake of getting it right away. Get something substantial that will stand 4 years wear. And get something comfortable. Something like the red one at home would be nice. I think green will be nice for your room. Be sure you take the correct measurement for your window or the drapes might not look right as your window is awful wide.

Did you start a bank account as yet. I was worried as I couldn't remember what you did with your money after we left.

Let us know what you're doing and all about college life, as we never went to college and we're interested to know what it's all about.

I guess this will be all for tonite, as I'm getting mighty sleepy. Probably take you from now until Thanksgiving to decipher this letter[.] Be good & take care of yourself.

Love
Mother
