Sunday,
Dear Pat,
Mother and I saw the Frolic, Friday night. I wouldn't admit having any connection with it whatsoever, if I were you. The kids tried, but it just wasn't there. The Can Can dance started off with the girls rushing on stage with a scream same as in the B'way musical but there the similarity ended. They didn't even wear the traditional black garters. Faculty censorship, no doubt. Otherwise, the costumes were quite good in the show generally. A few inconsistencies with respect to the historical period, but not too noticeable. The showboat captain was easily understood in the rear of the balcony but most of the other boys were indistinguishable mumbles to me. The girls' voices carried a little better. Graduation of Ginny, Janey, Joany, Johnny and Co., sure left a big hole in Margaretta's Varsity.
I suppose Mother told you we didn't get home until nearly 12:30 A.M. Tuesday morning. She drove down to the middle of 34th Street in NY on Monday where the traffic snarled to a standstill. They all got out of the car and rushed into Macy's leaving me to dispose of the heap. Kept crawling East until I found a place to park near Toid Avnuh and Toidy-Secon' Street. We left about 7:30, after supper at White's. Mother got sleepy and I had to take over again at the HJ temp shack on the new part of the TP. Been pooped all week.
I couldn't find your budget card. You must have taken it back with you. I am sending you two more $10 checks plus your Xmas Savings check from the Fund Grandpa started for you. As I remember the notice on Abbey bulletin board, you pay for your ticket on Dec. 8 and check your baggage at the same time. Does that mean they pick up your baggage that day? Your clothing would have to be packed up a long time and probably come out permanently wrinkled. Also, would the baggage go so far ahead of you that you'd have to pay storage at Lancaster?
I don't know whether we will meet you in New York or not. You'd better make your own arrangements. If you can't stay at Barnard, will Mt. H. permit one of its wholesome girls to stay alone at a NY hotel? Mother might come over by train and meet you. I'm not too anxious to tag along on another shopping trip.
I got a new catalogue at the Registrar's office (after a pause to decide whether they could spare it since only a small supply has been delivered.) I have been trying to chart the courses that would be involved in the Speech and Drama major. It takes hours of wrestling with the catalogue. Anyway, I'll be better able to discuss it with you over the Xmas holidays.
We received a very nice letter from Judy. I hope the trip was worth the expense to her.
Let us know as soon as possible where you are going to stay in New York, if you are not coming straight home. Mother can't make any arrangements until she knows your plans. If you don't have enough money, don't wait until the last minute again to ask for checks.
Love,
Dad
