A Letter Written on Feb 6, 1957

Wednesday night

Dear Pat,

Please excuse my not writing, but as usual it's the same old story the days are just too short.

I thought finals would never be over and when they were I was really done in.

I was in New York between semesters and I thought I might run into you the evening of February 1st. I stopped in at Whities [probably White Horse Tavern in Greenwich Village] and Tofenetties [sic - Toffenetti's] and walked all over Times Square a million times. Where were you staying? I was out on Long Island with a group from school. We stayed in York one night and went to see the witch. Mason was there and made drinks for everyone. After he left she said that for the boy's sake she wanted to have him back. I kind of doubt her reason but in any case I think it's the best news to come out of that house in a long while. I hope it's not too late.

I still can't get over being in New York for four days and not seeing a single show but we just couldn't get tickets. Saturday night we went to the Latin Quarter. I'm not impressed. How I thought of you seeing My Fair Lady!

How I wish summer were here so we could be together again for awhile. Each one of these long drags gets a little harder to take.

Love always,
Phil
