A Letter Written on May 28, 1957

Tuesday, Afternoon

Dear Pat:

Well I guess you're taking it easy this week, with nothing to do but pack. Dad sent our reservation off last night for Hartford Saturday night. I bet we have a time coming up to Hartford sat. [sic] night because of the Holiday. I think Dad plans to take a new route home Sunday, because of the traffic. I don't know if it will be better or worse.

By the way could you talk Larry into letting you report Friday June the 14th. That way Dad would not have to take off any days and maybe I could make it if I only took off one day. I don't know if I can take off in the middle of the week as Dot will be off and the girl that takes my place will be working for Dot. If you could report Sat. that would also be okay. Dad was looking for a letter from you yesterday, maybe one will be there today. Unless we hear different we expect you to be ready to leave Sun. around 2 or before.

We have been very busy, I house cleaned the den over the week-end and the bathroom last night. That lets part of downstairs to do.

We went down to see Lurlie again Sunday and things are changed, they find that she's not as bad as they thought. She doen't [sic] have the worse kind. They have started treatment thru the blood and this week she has to change hospitals to take other treatments that are only given in certain hospitals. Understand she may only live a few years, but where there's life there's hope that they might find something in the meantime. They removed the bad part of her bowel. Maybe she'll be home by the time you get home and you can take Grandma down to see her sometime. Sellman called Friday night and told us the good news. She was even up Sunday, although the treatments make her very sick to the stomach, but she doesn't have any pain, which is very good.

We took David's graduation gift out to him this week. We got him a sport shirt and gave him ten dollars.

We'll take Rick's gift up tonight. I got him a sport outfit. Shirt and trunks to match, which I thought would be nice for Chatuqua.

I hear Jane's going to R. I. Her mother went down today to bring her home and she's coming home tomorrow. She's to be at home about two weeks. I guess you two will have a lot to talk about.

It's a little cool here today, but at least the sun is shinning. [sic] Ever since Dad packed our blankets away it's been cool

Kim slept on my bed last night, maybe to keep warm. She's been sleeping on your bed. She wont [sic] like her trip up to Grandma's for the weekend, but then she won't want to come home again. She sure doesn't like to go out, although she thinks she wants too [sic] at times.

Everyone is okay here, see you soon, take care and get lots of rest this week.

Love,
Mother
