A Letter Written on Apr 24, 1956

Tuesday Afternoon

Dear Patt:

Here It [sic] is another rainy day. It even tried to snow this morning. Idon't [sic] know how your weather is up there, but down here it [is] cold. They say we'll have another 30 days of cold weather. i was hoping it would warm up until we came up, as I'd like to wear my spring coat. The way it feels I'll need my fur coat. Don't try any outdoor sun bathing as yet.

Saturday night we had club at home. The Hipples were missing, as sort of usuall. [sic] Eleanor had an operation the other week, but she's okay now. Mary wasn't feeling too well but they came anyway. She won first prize so that made her feel better.

Sunday, daddy had a hectic day. he tried to spray the kitchen with yellow paint and the spayer [sic] wouldn't spray the paint on right, but the dust from the paint went all thru the house, putting a yellow dust on everything, I'm sure glad I didn't house clean as yet. He had to give up the idea of spraying and ended up painting.with [sic] brush. He had everything tied up, so I couldn't do much but sit around and load. It was too cold and damp outsied [sic] to do any outside work, Grandma did a little. We had dinner up there and we went out to the cemetry [sic] and looked at a few new houses. We tried to find Kling's place but finally found where the Solings are building in Farquhar Estates.

Last week we spent in tearing the linoleum off the counter and the back of the sink. What a job. We left the felt base on the counter thinking they might be able to use it, but Dad called a while agao [sic] and said they had to tear that off and what a job it was. He said it would have taken us all night. I think that's one reason whey [sic] we left it on, as It [sic] seemed to be glued so tightly. You won't know the kitchen the next time you see it. We had bad luck with the floor, as the yellow we wanted was cancelled and the brown would be two or three weeks in getting here. Dad was quite disgusted. They're supposed to get a new yellow, but so far we haven't heard anything about it. I guess it won8t [sic] be any use to house clean until they finish the floor, if that makes as much dirt as the top did. I'm anxious to go home tonight and see how the counter now looks.

It looks like you won't get the playground job this year, as Grandma hears that they're going to give it to the girl that had it last year, although she won't be there in July. You haven't heard as yet as I think they are debating about getting a boy, maybe they can't and then they might hire another girl, so that is probably why you haven't heard from them. What else shall we try for you? They just filled a summer job here in the office with a hight [sic] school girl. You know Mary Ellen quit and Dot Rohrbaugh is taking her place, and since Mrs. Fisher was retired it makes a lot of work for everyone around here, since we're short two girls.

You better not make any plans for us at school for on [sic] Sunday, as I believe Dad wants to leave for home early Sunday Morning [sic], as you know how the pike gets to Sunday afternoon, especially if it is nice, everybody from N. Y. is out. So I'm sorry but I don't believe we can talk daddy into staying, since we'll have to go back to Hartford for Saturday night and then run back up to school again Sunday, I don't believe he'll go for that. We'll have to try and get a Motel closer to school sometime and see if we can't stay there for such affairs. Dad don't like that long drag thru long meadow. [sic] Is there anything special you want us to bring along. I'll bring some of your summer skirts and blouses.

Glad to hear you made the tops in the Junior Play. That will be quite an honor for you I'm sure. Don't try to do too much extra work that your makrs [sic] come down in your studies, or they'll make you give us some.
