A Letter Written on Jan 15, 1955

Saturday afternoon

Dear Pat,

Your display of domesticity frightens me. It sounds like you are becoming a normal human being which in your case isn't good. Are you coming home between semesters? is Jane, When? The thought of not seeing you till June just doesn't go. By the way stay off the drinks you're just not the alcoholic type.

I spent the last week plowing through snow, man is it cold up here. Twice this morning I fell flat on my back going to classes. The damn ice is enough to kill a person. I can't even drive the car. To tell you I'm studying hard would be a lie. I just can't seem to get into the swing of things. Someone always thinks of something better than studying to do. I fear my finals are going to be a complete failure. I learned that my history average was 92% to date but the final will soon ruin that.

I saw "Phafft" [sic - Phffft] and "Drum Beat" this week so don't waste your money. "Movies are better than ever????"

I heard from Jim the other day he says he is in need of a good home cooked meal. He must be running out of cans. He has a part in a play they are doing and he swears he has stopped drinking. What a laugh that is.

I just finished pre-registering so mother and dad will have a nice bill. At least its [sic] something to remember me by.

I probably won't get a chance to write again before finals so good luck to you. Tell Judy I hope she is well again so you so she can see to it that you don't go to every wild drinking party that comes along.

Now I must take a sack lab. which is quite ghost if you know what I mean.

Love always,
Phil
