Tues. Afternoon
Dear Pat:
How's tricks up there. We had spring or summer here over the week-end. Very nice. Today is rainy and a little cooler.
Last week was a sure hum dinger. I'm still not caught up with my work. I was quite the cat's Saturday night. I wore all my new Easter duds and it was warm enough for them. Sunday sure didn't seem like Easter, no egg hunt, you not home, didn't go to church and had steamed shrimp for dinner and worked outside in the yard for awhile. We went to church Thursday night and took Communion. Grandma went along with us. I hope you took Communion there.
I went to Ceramics last night and got the jewelry back. It looks quite nice and shiny. I'll have to finish your pin and mail it to you.
[handwriting change to Dad's]
Did you get the tape yet? The bill arrived showing the Remote Control temporarily out of stock, and a refund of $5.46. Shall we re-order it? Saw Joan and her mother Fri. evening, says she is going to be in "Picnic" when they do it at school. Abe stopped around on Sat. Says tell you to visit him and Barb over in Brooklyn next time you get to N.Y. Mother says she'll pay you $10 per week to do the housework this summer. You probably won't net that much anywhere else and still have as much leisure. Better snap it up.
[back to Mother's handwriting]
Tues. night con.
I got too busy I didn't get to finish your letter on company time. Can you imagine Jean Wiley did my filing this afternoon. That's the first time those girls ever did anything for any other dept. I don't know what may be in back of it, getting so generous all of a sudden, and I had a stack about 6" high to file.
Speaking of Joan I can't see where she lost any weight, she looked the same to me. We forgot to ask her what part she was taking in Picnic.
Aunt Bertie was the only one who saw Phil while he was home. I thought he might drop around but he didn't.
How about taking me up on that cleaning deal. I sure would like to get outside over the week-ends this summer and not have to stay in and clean. You could also practise [sic] cooking. You have to learn sometime. I still think that job at Allenberry would be to[o] straining for you. Seven days to be on call and no off days would be too much. You have been under strain all winter and you should get something entirely different from what you are doing and something that would give you a break over the week-ends. Remember you have to go back to school in the fall and you should be well rested. And we just can't get your things together in a day or two. Think all this over before you make any decisions and consult us before anything definite is decided. I would also have to approve your lodging quarters and have more information on working conditions and hours.
Grandma was sick today. I think the shad she had Monday evening wasn't up to par. She and Aunt Bertie had it Sat. night and all day Sunday Aunt Bertie wasn't feeling good. Grandma had a piece left and she made it Monday night and all night she was up and down vomitting [sic] and BM's. She had the doctor and he told her it was something she ate. Tonight she is much better, I guess it is out of her stomach by this time. The rest did her good though. She got your letter today, so that helped to cheer her up.
Glad to hear Fitch made it over Sunday. You say you're going over there next week-end. Is it for a party or dance? What are you planning to wear?
I guess we won't get up for parents day unless it is absolutely necessary to you that we be there. It would mean daddy would have to take another day vacation and he can't afford too many if he's going to work at the fair.
I looked all over town to get you something for Easter but didn't know what to get, in fact Grandma, Aunt Bertie and I would have liked to get you something. You should keep us supplied with list of things you would like. By the way what size film does your camera take? I did have a very swell bunny for you to use as a what-not but grandma needed a small gift for Easter for a baby, so guess who got the bunny. It would have just got dusty anyway. If there are records and books you would like to have why don't you send us a list?
How's your recorder doing. You better not broadcast it around too much that you have one. After all your [sic] on scholarship and they might wonder how you can afford one of those and want a scholarship.
How comes you're keeping your typewriter in Judy's closet. You should use it and you alone, the type can be ruined with too many different persons using it. The touch is affected. And don't go loaning out your tape recorder. And while we're on the subject did Connie ever pay you for the room rent, if she didn't & ask her for it. That can become a bad habit. Also get your money from the other girl.
How did you make out on your Physics blue book?
Daddy's ready for bed so I guess I'll have to close for the time[.] Take good care of yourself and watch your dressing for these spring like days they're foolers and easy to take a cold.
Love
Mother.
