A Letter Written on Mar 2, 1958

Dear Patty

Surprise! A letter from me! Aren't you thrilled? But I have an ulterior motive, which I shall reveal later. First, however, how is She Stoops coming? Are you going to bring it to Yale, by any chance? And if not, what are you bringing? We're not sure what we're taking yet, possibly a one-act play written by Shirley, or the 1st act of Garden Party, an original 3-act by one of the other girls at Barnard, Jan Burroway. We're doing them in Workshop at the end of April. If they don't pan out, we might take Salinger's "Uncle Wiggly in Connecticut." It's all very much up in the air.

I've been talking to the kids who are working up the University Players deal I told you about. I gave them your name, & asked them to get in touch with you. They were very interested in you, I think it would be grand fun if we could do stock together.

Now, about what my devious purpose is in writing you. We need the music for certain obscure folksongs in Finnegan, namely ["]The Ballad of Pearse O'Reilley", "Finnegan's Wake", "Let Erin Remember", & "The Exile of Erin", & "Alone, all alone by the wave washed strand." Can you either (1) tell me how to get hold of the music, or (2) if perchance the music is still somewhere in the vicinity of the Holyoke drama department, could you send me a copy? And if you can do either, thank you muchly. I'm so excited at the prospect of Finnegan's! It's going to be such a good production, as good, I hope, if possible, as your production. We could use your ALP, at any rate. We're having difficulty casting her. The production comes off April 9-12, right before comps, God forbid.

I must dash now, so have fun, don't kill yourself, knit like crazy, & thanks,

Love,
Janie
