A Letter Written on Dec 6, 1955

Tuesday Afternoon (when I should be working instead of writing)

Dear Patty:

Hi, ya kid. Thought it was about time I wrote to you. I have been very busy with scarely [sic] time to breathe. I sure enjoyed the N. Y. stores a let [sic] better than Philly. Things aren't as hard to find and they have so many more things to choose from. Daddy ran past the turn-off at Lancaster so we went straight on to Harrisburg turn-off. Luck was sure with us on that trip.

Tuesday night was the big night at the Church. Everyone thought the table looked so nice. Thanksagain [sic] to you and Judy. We had more than enough stuff to fill it. Our table took in around $30. the highest of any table. You should have seen Mrs. Rupp, all dressed up in an evening gown with her summer white oxford shoes.

Wednesday night we played cards at Catharine's and the cars were unusual and interesting to play. Mae won. Mae says carolyn's [sic] marks aren't as good as last year, as she's running around too much and making the most of her last year at school.

Thursday night, we went to the Food Fair, we had received a circular for a free prize. We got a 1 lb. package of hot dogs, so did Grandma and Aunt Bertie got 2 lbs. of sugar. I wonder who will give something away this week. We then spent the rest of the evening out at the Shopping center, visiting the new stores that we haven't been in before. There, [sic] are still quite a few to open.

Friday I got some more passes for the Capitol, so we rushed down to see Frankie and the Tender Trap. It was real cute. I still have some that are good until the twenieth [sic], I might save you a few.

Saturday I didn't do too much about the house but in the afternoon until time to go to club I made ear rings, 23 to be exact. Sunday afternoon I spent in painting them. Still nothing done to the house, I told you I would hardly get cleaned up before you'll be home again, maybe I should wait and let you help. I'll try to get the earrings off to you as soon as possible. We don't have the car Mon, Tues. and Wed., so that was one reason I wanted to get them finished and in to Marion.

Last night Grandma and I stayed in town to do some shopping. Tonight I hope to get ready for class meeting tomorrow night. I got in to work this morning at 7;50. We left to get the eight o'clock bus and Vic Snyder gave us a lift in town. By the way did you know that Victor had been married about 6 months ago.

By the way don't bring anyone home with you at Christmas, it's too long a vacation. If you want some of your friends to visit you for one day okay. But no one for the full time, please. And bring your new red dress home and some other dresses that you can wear, no jumpers. Show your friends that you can dress up.

By the way did you get up to Amherst and how did you make out. Friends again, platonic that is? Take good care of yourself and we'll see you soon. Everyone is okay here.

Love,
Mother
