A Letter Written around Sep 26, 1957

Dear Pat.

The pictures are safely ensconced in my memory book to be unearthed at odd occassions [sic] to prove I was once an actor - the picture of Paris has the atmosphere of Dracula about it - but I will try to convince the viewer that it's "Romeo & Juliet."

No, I do not have my own apartment and I doubt if I will have one before Spring - so we will have to postpone our lascivious tryst until the trees begin to leaf and the world regenerates. - But that should not stop us from spliting [sic] a quart of gin during the Thanksgiving holidays - I'm looking forward to seeing the "flame of unrequited love" in those bloodshot eyes of yours.

Now for some idiotic news.

John & I made it safely to New York with the kind assistance of St. Christopher. Mercury and a tall gate guard who helped me push that fetal thing called a car when it stalled on the Merit Parkway. John Taylor - how shall I put it, is a good? river when he has to travel between two points in a straight line - but god help him if he has to turn. My life flashed before my eyes - twice - and since I have not led a very interesting or exciting life - I found these all encompassing flashes a bore and impossed [sic] upon John to be careful - to which he answered by throwing his hands to his cheeck [sic] and in a plaintive tone saying, "Tony, you're angry with me." Again. those flashes. We arrived in New York in the nick of time to save his reservation at the "Y" (ugh) and proceded [sic] to have dinner at the "Britany" a charming French restaurant on the West Side. This was my first honest-to-goodness meal in a long time - and I was in heaven. Was I glad to be back in N.Y.? - not really. I'm getting sick of this burg. But like a sadist - I have to stay here - outside of San Francisco - there isn't another city I can be happy in. Oh well -

New York didn't welcome me with open arms either. I found it most difficult getting a job. It seems my Summer employment did not ingratiate me with prospective employers - as a matter of fact one of them said - "We don't want you." But I managed to find something -

And now. I have a rather well paying job - and going to school - for my Masters. I'm taking Contemporary Drama - given by Elmer Rice. Most fascinating lecturer.

Now dear heart - I shall relinquish you to those dreams and realities of yours. If you have a chance drop a line. During the holidays give me a call - EV8-6986.

As always
Tony.
