Dearest Pat,

Well, even if I didn't send a valentine, I did send something to you yesterday! (Rationalizing again, as usual!) The truth of the matter is that I have been so sick and so overworked the past three days that I have hardly been outside, and I didn't even send one to my mother, which will disappoint her very much since I always have before.

If you think you have troubles, listen to me: cold, sore throat, backache, cough, no sleep (practically - only 15 hours in 3 nights) paper due on Monday (up 'til 5 A.M.) Tuesday (haven't started it yet) and test just a few minutes ago (answered only 3 of 7 questions correctly), glee club rehersal [sic] from 6:45 to 9:30 tonight and tomorrow, working in dining hall, and prospects of 3 hour tests and one - no, two - papers in next two weeks. Well! Now what do you say to that? If you don't hear from me for a month or so - send some roses, I've died. (Or worse yet, quit school and gone home - but not to Mother, since she's in Toronto, Canada.) P.S. - Dad is in Florida, tom in New York, and Cousin Marge and bridegroom are living in our house, so I can't really do that either, dammit.

To hell with homework is right: right now I couldn't care less. Hope my spirits can be lifted by a trip across the Notch this weekend.

The plans sound fabulous, and I know will do plenty to re-vivify a tired old soph. The only problem is that feeling so rotten, I think I'd better not come Friday night, since that is my only chance to get a good night's sleep for quite a while to come. I feel very badly about doing this to you (hope you haven't gotten ticket already - if so, call and I will come anyway.), after the lovely valentine you sent - which is on my bulletin board to remind me that somebody loves me. Saturday I have classes until 11:50, and will get there as soon afterwards as possible - by bus or car, not sure which. Don't know when I'll arrive - probably by or before 2 P.M. Too soon?

Will tell you more about house party on Saturday, and certainly hope you can come (I may have to revert to Smith if you can't - aha look who's threatening whom!). Hope arm is better - so you can defend yourself, of course - otherwise will see if smooching helps it! (SHOCKING, AY WHAT) Hello to Judy - and much love to you -

Don
