A Letter Written on Feb 21, 1965

Sunday evening Feb 21- 8:30

Dear Sioux Sue and Larry,

Believe it or not, we just finished dinner. It has been a very odd day around here. All because Mommy slept this morning until 1 in the afternoon, then got up, and went back to bed to 3 and slept until 6:30. How's that for establishing a new sleeping record? And we didn't get to bed too late last night - only about 12:45.

Going back over the week, I find there isn't too much unusual to report. Wednesday evening was a very interesting Kiwanis meeting. We had Charles John Stevenson as speaker. His voice really isn't as horrible as it sounds on radio. After the meeting I went to bowling and did very well In fact, in the second game I started with 2 spares, then had four strikes. I had visions of a real big game, but I ended with 3 misses in the last 4 frames. I only had a 182. But the best part was that I came back with a 204. I was following thru with my delivery and I hope I can continue that delivery the rest of the season.

Uncle Ray came back Thurs night. I had a meeting at the YMCA of the Mohawk Division Council of Kiwanis. Ray, Frank and Ann were here when I got back after 10. Grandpa had been packed all day. Altho he was happy to go back to Amsterdam, he had told me he was getting used to being here. But in Amst he can go to the store, whereas here he just sat in the house all day. The most exciting things that happened were dog fights and the stopping by of the mail man. I guess he looked outside most of the day.

Friday evening I went to Temple. I did not work Sat. as I guess our overtime work is ended. Mommy had her class in Albany Sat. morning. In the afternoon she went downtown with Grandma who was buying rugs for her front rooms. All I did Sat. was get gas in the Ford and come back home. I spent a lot of time straightening those pictures we brought home from Amst. I think we'll get rid of all those old family pictures by giving them out at the Eisenberg family reunion. We'll just keep those of our own branch of the family.

Saturday night we went out with the Rifkins. We left at 6 and went to Ricatello's for dinner. Mommy had veal parmagiano [sic] and I had spaghetti and meat balls. After dinner we went to the Big N to kill 15 minutes and then we went to the Scotia and saw "That Man from Rio", a French picture that was similar to "Goldfinger" in adventure. It was beautiful in shots of Rio and Brasilia, but the story was a real cops and robbers. We enjoyed it. The Rifkins came here for coffee after the movie.

This morning I went to the First Reformed Church for the annual joint service. Dr. Johnson asked how Sue Ellen was. The Church is invited to Temple next Fri. Mommy was too tired. When I got home I found her still sleeping. At 12:45 I went to the funeral of Henry Weiss who died yesterday. He was David and Sydna's father. He had cancer and evidently had only been ill a couple of months. After the funeral I came home, found Mommy still sleeping. She got up at 1. I watched a thrilling Phil 1 point win over Baltimore Bullets and while I was watching Mommy trotted into the bed room, got in bed and was asleeep [sic] again. I also watched Ben Hogen beat Sam Snead on Wide World of Golf. I finished sorting the pictures. Finally at 6:30 we had meat pies for supper. That's about all we've eaten all day.

We had a phone call from Ernie Rubin inviting us to dinner tomorrow night for our anniversary. I think Mommy will have a lot of work to do tomorrow, having skipped it all today.

I guess Mommy has written you about the size of all latest phone bill. Even Mommy was shocked when she opened it. Ruth Rosner phoned yesterday to say Uncle Henry had received Sue Ellen's nice letter.

That's all from me for now. Mom is washing her hair and wants me to leave the rest of the letter for her.

Keep well. Love,
Daddy [Arnold J. Friedman]

[in Mommy's handwriting:] Thanks for that darling anniversary card.
